more-inThe High Court of Karnataka on Monday directed the BBMP to submit a status report on clearance of encroachment of storm-water drains (SWDs) across the city. A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice H.G. Dinesh Kumar issued the direction while hearing a PIL petition pointing out various problems related to management of SWDs, disposal of sewer, and so on. During the hearing, an application was filed contending that encroachment in the lake-bed area and SWDs result in flooding of low-lying areas. It was also alleged that the response of civic agencies was very slow during rainy season.
