more-inThe Madras High Court on Monday expressed hope that a bridge constructed across Adyar river connecting Anakaputhur with Tharapakkam in Alandur taluk of Kancheepuram district, would be put to use within six months after finding a solution to a decade-old land dispute between the State government and the Indian Air Force (IAF). First Division Bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose made the observation while dismissing as withdrawn a public interest litigation petition filed by advocate ‘Elephant’ G. Rajendran in 2015, seeking a direction to put the bridge to public use at the earliest. After long-drawn negotiations, the Kancheepuram Collector proposed to transfer equal value of land at Thiruvancheri village which was approximately 500 km away from the Air Force station at Tambaram. “The proposal is under consideration by the Air Force and a final decision will be taken shortly,” the letter read. Rajagopalan produced a letter written by the Chief Minister to the Defence Ministry and said the government had also been following the matter seriously.
