Guns are 'cool' and not for protecting drugs, meth trial told

Tevita Matangi Fangupo, Tevita Sitanilei Kulu and Tonu Rajendra Finau have denied importing methamphetamine and cocaine into New Zealand. Kulu's lawyer Steve Bonnar QC told jurors the Crown's case was his client had the guns to ward off threats faced as a drug dealer. He said when Kulu was questioned why he had the guns, including a running starter pistol that fired blanks, he told police "they were cool". He told jurors the court did not deal in speculation. "You can't fix up holes in the Crown evidence."
