VANCOUVER – She insists she’s not interested in the top job, but that’s not stopping Tory MPs and Conservative members from trying to amend the party’s constitution this week in Vancouver to allow Rona Ambrose to run for the permanent leadership. By most accounts, she has performed well as interim Conservative leader. “What Rona has said is that being permanent leader has not been part of her plan … She signed on to being interim leader with a set of rules,” Reid told the Ottawa Citizen. The proposed amendment would allow an interim leader to become a candidate in the leadership election as long as that person resigns from the interim job no less than six months before voting day. A group of Conservative MPs – led by Scott Reid, Pierre Poilievre and Shannon Stubbs – has been spearheading a “Draft Rona Ambrose” campaign to enable her to run for the Tory crown, if she wants the job.
