Toronto police raided a slew of marijuana dispensaries Thursday afternoon, carrying out a citywide crackdown on businesses suspected of distributing the drug illegally. Mayor John Tory had previously promised a crackdown on the proliferation of marijuana dispensaries in Toronto. That body issued notices of caution to 78 medical marijuana property owners over the past week. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, meanwhile, has promised his government will decriminalize marijuana, but that the laws won’t change until next year. Police have dubbed the operation “Project Claudia,” executed in conjunction with the city of Toronto’s Municipal Licensing and Standards Investigation Services.
