Grolsch lager and its distinctive swingtop bottle lids will disappear from UK supermarket shelves

Lager brand Grolsch is to be discontinued in the UK after 35 years on supermarket shelves. The brand's owners, the international Asahi group, told trade journal The Grocer that a brewing deal with its UK manufacturer had come to an end. The Grolsch brand became a part of the SABMiller group in March 2008. Asahi acquired the then Grolsch brand from Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2016 along with other former SABMiller beer brands including Peroni Nastro Azzurro. This week, the Asahi Group downgraded its full-year forecasts partly because of foreign currency headwinds at its overseas units.
