Even the elite seats of learning are not exempt from what is feared to be more than a temporary phenomenon. Hong Kong educators face a double-whammy. Over the years, remuneration packages offered by Hong Kong universities often excelled those of their overseas peers. But this favorable advantage gap is narrowing, with some mainland universities making lucrative offers to academics to lead research programs. Before us is a grey rhino threat that is impossible for policymakers to miss.
