Kendrick Lamar kicked off the 60th Grammy Awards telecast with a performance and another award. Lamar’s work had already racked up wins in the music video, rap performance and rap song categories during the pretelecast ceremony. Over on the red carpet, Joy Villa made a statement once again this year with a gown decorated with the image of a fetus. Jay-Z led the field going into today’s festivities with eight nominations, with Lamar and Bruno Mars following with seven and six nods, respectively. Winners of the marquee categories — including record, song and album of the year, plus new artist — will be announced during the performance-heavy main event hosted by James Corden.
