The government has permitted a joint venture firm, Consortium of Summit Corporation Ltd GE, to set up a 530MW-590MW dual-fuel power plant in Narayanganj’s Meghna Ghat. Cabinet committee on Public Purchase on Wednesday approved a Power Division proposal to set up the plant by Summit group. The private power plant was approved as part of the government’s initiative to increase power production to meet the country’s growing demand. After the meeting, Additional Cabinet Secretary Mostafizur Rahman told reporters that the committee had also approved the power division’s proposal of tariff. Apart from this, the tariff for kilowatt-hour has been fixed at Tk12.61 for electricity produced by diesel and the government will buy electricity from the power plant for 22 years.
