Govt heeds call for J&K healing touch

Some clarity is likely to emerge on Friday after an all-party meeting, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rajnath reiterated the government's commitment to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's roadmap of " insaaniyat" (humanity), "jamhooriyat" (democracy) and " kashmiriyat" (Kashmir's syncretic culture) for the state. Echoing him, junior minister Jitender Singh spoke out against what he called "intellectual terrorism" where people who "write against India" are glorified. Vajpayee's healing touch policy was also flagged by Sharad Yadav of the JDU who asked the government to treat angry Kashmiris as a parent would deal with a child gone astray. Tripathi of the NCP stressed on the need for recognising the dignity of Kashmiris across the country.
