KUALA LUMPUR: The government is primed and ready to face wide-scale flooding with the arrival of the monsoon season in east coast states. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said flood evacuation centres have been readied, while required basic necessities have been stored at 569 forward bases across the region. "The government will ensure that flood rescue equipment is sufficient and in good condition. Seasonal rains have frequently triggered flooding in the east coast, often displacing tens of thousands of people who are forced to take shelter at evacuation centres, damaging infrastructure and blocking road access. The annual east coast monsoon season generally runs from mid-October to late March.
