Govt collected RM13.7b in taxes from foreign workers since 2012


KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM13.7 billion has been levied from foreign workers in the last 6 years, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Zahid said in 2017, around 1.7 million foreign workers with temporary foreign workers permits (PLKS) who were hired legally contributed to the tax collection of around RM1.4 billion until June this year. “It was reported that in the year 2012, RM2.6 billion were collected, RM2.4 billion for 2013, RM2.6 billion for 2014, and RM2.2 billion in 2015 while the year 2016 received RM2.5 billion from legal foreign workers. “These are the numbers found based on foreign workers that were hired legally with their temporary permits. He was responding to Dr Ko Chung Sen (DAP-Kampar) who asked Zahid the figures for the number of foreign workers and the loss of the levied collection from them in the last ten years.
