Govt. cannot pay international debt, still in denial: Harsha

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Harsha De Silva today stated that the government has $6 billion of international debt to settle and is in denial thinking it can be easily paid. “The government owes about $ 6 billion internationally, including debts to the World Bank, Asia Development Bank and China and India,” he stated. I can responsibly say that we will not be able to pay the current debt at this rate,” Harsha De Silva said. He further accused the government of falsely reassuring the public and requested the government not to use denial as a strategy. “There is a debt of about $ 1 billion used for currency swaps,” he stated.
