Government will take a call on power tariff: APERC chief


Chairman of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) Justice Bhavani Prasad on Tuesday said keeping in view the financial position of the DISCOMs and the report submitted to the Commission by the Energy Department, the government would take a stand on power tariff. He said the Commission had written a letter to the government for shifting its office from Hyderabad to Andhra Pradesh and it would be done by June. Naik said issues like demands of free power supply to farmers engaged in jaggery manufacturing and three-phase power supply to farmers would be addressed after discussions with the government. They also insisted that the Regulatory Commission should review longstanding Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs). Power arrearsHe also demanded that the government bear the the burden of the ₹8,963 crore deficit, make payment for power arrears due from the local institutions and government departments and the Regulatory Commission prohibit purchase of power from private companies.
