Government releases new Tertiary Education Policy Reforms


Accra,June 15, GNA – Government in partnership with the National Council for Tertiary Education has released the new Tertiary Education Policy Reform to improve on the academic performance and governance of tertiary educational institutions. The aim is to provide a clear guideline for the ultimate structure, planning, development, regulation, operations, overall governance and accountability of the tertiary education system. The reform contains a Draft Bill for Harmonisation of Acts of Public Universities, Centralised Applications and Placements Service, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, National Research and Innovation Fund, Tertiary Education Management Information System and UDS splitting into UTAS and UBIDS. On accountability, he said, the regulatory body shall have adequate mechanisms in place to demand accountability from tertiary education institutions, which the institutions shall abide by. He said the institutions shall also be subjected to quality assurance and accreditation at both institutional and programme levels.
