The use of the term “climate disruption” in the title of the Government’s plan to respond to a rapidly warming world suggests there is finally a mindset change at the highest political level. It fairly reflects what is facing Ireland if carbon emissions are curtailed, though many contend “climate catastrophe” would be more accurate to describe the current situation. To what extent does the Whole of Government Plan to Tackle Climate Disruption signal intent and capacity to deliver? The report also acknowledges immediate threats from climate change. “Make no mistake, this report will change your life,” Prof David Reay of the University of Edinburgh said in response to the UK’s equivalent plan published recently.
