Government is to commence a three-week rehabilitation exercise to repair defects on the Laklapa River Bridge on the Accra-Tema-motorway from Friday June 10, to rescue the bridge from total collapse. “The public should be rest assured that traffic will be diverted professionally in less than half a kilometre or between 300 to 500 metres in order to circumvent the bridge for work to progress speedily,” he said. Mr Yakubu Koray, Director of Bridges, Ghana Highway Authority, said the decision had become necessary because some sections of the deck slabs had developed defects that needed replacement. “The works will involve cutting out damaged sections and reconstructing them. We are currently placing props to hold the entire bridge structure together but the replacement will be a reinforced concrete slab,” he added.
