Today's Google doodle celebrates 136th birth anniversary of one of the greatest short story writers, Munshi Premchand. The Google’s doodle shows Premchand in a rural setting, which is the backdrop of most of his work. The doodle takes inspiration from his last novel, Godaan (1936). On what would have been his 136th birthday, the illustration pays tribute to the multitude of important stories he told,” Google says on its website. Premchand, who has written many short stories, essays and novels in his lifetime, was born on July 31, 1880 in Lamhi, Uttar Pradesh.
