CHANDIGARH: The much-debated Goods and Services Tax GST ) met with widespread opposition in Chandigarh on Friday. "On manmade and synthetic textile, there is a 12% GST and 18% on clothes with embroidery. "Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been batting for `Make in India', GST is opposite to what he has been encouraging. "Chandigarh Furniture As sociation, which had earlier staged a three-day protest against the new tax, demanded that GST on furniture items be reduced from the present 28% 12%. "It is not a luxury, but a basic need for any family or office," said Chandigarh Furniture Association president Shishpal Garg said.
