Last week New York City Council passed a ban on foie gras, the French delicacy made by force-feeding ducks and geese, to go into effect in 2022. Foie gras has transformed many animal lovers from conscious consumers to passionate protesters. But countless other foods are made from animal suffering. This is worsened by the fact that small animals often endure worse living conditions because they are so easily factory farmed. Because foie gras is a small number of calories per animal, and the suffering per animal is clearly immense, it is certainly near the top of any list of the cruellest foods.
