"Since our trade was tax free before and we weren't under VAT, only income tax filing was mandatory for us. Now, we are finding it difficult to programme our billing structure," he added, expressing fears that trade activities would remain slow for a few days. Banerjee explained that pre-GST, customers would end up paying close to 3 per cent tax. "We had to pay 1 per cent tax and 1 per cent excise duty on jewellery from our end.
