Grizzlies will intimidate or kill black bears native to the islands, which may prompt a black bear exodus. Nevertheless, Haida Gwaii, Vancouver Island and the hundreds of islands in between have remained grizzly-free for centuries. But for Alert Bay, at least, their bear invasion is over.
