Global warming is melting the world's glaciers at an alarming rate

It is no secret that the immediate physical effects of global heating is being observed in the way that it is melting the world’s ice, or cryosphere. This rate of melting has contributed towards 21% of global sea level rise, more than the contribution of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets. Globally, #glaciers lost a mass of 267 gigatonnes per year, an amount that could submerge the surface of #Switzerland by 6 meters of water every year. The researchers have re-iterated earlier projections that at present rates of melting, the world’s glaciers could be gone by 2050. And apart from causing a rise in sea levels, glacial mass loss has grave implications for water security.
