Gloating began as soon as unofficial results showed a majority of voters approved the military-sponsored draft charter. The gloating, gloominess and belligerence that followed Sunday's vote do not bode well for the country's reconciliation. More will be gleaned from Sunday's referendum as the reality of the results sink in. Shell-shocked and reeling in their "defeat", many draft charter opponents seem to have sunk into despair. Many claimed the clear endorsement of the draft charter was a blanket approval of everything the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has done and will continue to do.
