A woman in Gilgil town went berserk and stabbed her newly born baby three times with a kitchen knife killing her on the spot before trying to commit suicide. A witness Samuel Njeru said that the woman was very stressed and was always under the watch of a relative. Njeru said the relative had just stepped outside when the woman turned her anger on the helpless baby, stabbing her three times. According to Gilgil OCPD Sarah Koki, initial investigations indicated that the birth had affected the woman psychologically. The incident came barely a fortnight after a casual labourer in the same town murdered his eight-month pregnant wife on ‘orders’ from the spirits.
