According to the Public Relations Officer of the water company in the Northern region, their water extracting plants now only draw sand instead of water forcing the company to reduce its production by the day. “They (illegal sand weaning) are virtually polluting the river, desilting it to the extent that now it is virtually mud that we are drawing. Ghana Water Company draw its water from the White Volta for treatment and subsequently supply same to residents of Savelugu, Tolon, Nyankpala, Tamale and its environs. But the illegal sand weaning is not the only threat to the supply of water in the affected communities.
