German Advent word of the day: Das Marzipan

During the Crusades, it was traded by Arabic merchants across Europe, and processed especially in areas such as Spain and Italy. But once sugarcane could be cultivated and sugar gained as the final product, marzipan was available for everyone. During Christmas, marzipan takes on another role. They are small balls of marzipan powdered with cocoa.
