Former police officer Derek Chauvin's prosecutors laid out an almost textbook-perfect case against him, having witness after witness testify that they realised George Floyd was at serious risk, but could not persuade Chauvin to let up, writes John Matisonn. US TV networks, including Trump-supporting Fox and Newsmax, interrupted regular programming this week to cover the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer who kept his knee on George Floyd's neck for an excruciating nine minutes and 29 seconds while his life drained away. After the incident, the trial of Chauvin, who was fired from the police force, kept America's racial reckoning front and centre of US politics as new vote-restriction laws were introduced in state capitals. Meanwhile, in Washington President Joe Biden introduced his second massive Bill to reform economic policy and address racial injustices.
