Garissa Elders on Friday spoke on the rise of unemployment in the area. This type of unfair hiring has prompted youths to get into dangerous lifestyles just to cater for themselves. In a forum organised by local youth groups in the area, the elders appealed to the government and county government to create opportunities for the youth so that they are kept busy,Majority of the youth lack employment, the biggest employer in Garissa is the national government and county government but nepotism has cost many qualified youth the opportunity to get employed. ‘‘We are calling upon county government to reform system of hiring and it has to become a merit base,’' he added. ‘‘Our youth are in need of revolution,’' said Hussein Abdi, a local elder.
