Gareth Southgate is due to meet Scott McTominay today in an attempt to persuade him to chose England over Scotland, with whose manager the 21-year-old held talks yesterday. The England manager is in a battle with Scotland’s Alex McLeish to secure the international allegiance of the Manchester United midfield player. McLeish held talks with McTominay at the club’s Carrington training ground yesterday to urge him to declare for Scotland, and The Times has been told that Southgate is due to meet him today to make the case that he should represent England.
