Gallery collaboration sees new visual art festival for Wellington

Fifteen public and private art galleries in Wellington will come together in a new arts festival to showcase work by various artists from around Aotearoa. The idea is to replicate art-crawl models which have found success overseas, such as London’s Art Night, or Paris’ or Berlin’s Art Week. “It’s quite unusual for dealer and public galleries to collaborate in this way,” said Grace Ridley-Smith, festival coordinator and manager of Wellington’s McLeavey Gallery. Portraiture was selected as the festival’s focus because it’s a “human” form of art, Ridley-Smith said.
