GEORGE TOWN: Finance Minister-designate Lim Guan Eng dismissed a ‘circular’ from the ministry that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would be abolished efective June 1. However, he said Pakatan Harapan would keep its promise to abolish GST. Nor, he said, did the ministry, adding that only Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had the power to issue any circulars. “Even then, I have checked with the ministry and the prime minister and no one had issued any circular. We will still do it (abolish GST) within 100 days of coming into power as promised.
