GRSE to build eight ASWSWCs for Indian Navy

NEW DELHI: The public sector Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) has been awarded a ₹6,311 crore contract to build eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft for the Indian Navy, a statement from India’s defence ministry said on Monday. The request for proposals was issued by the Indian Navy to defence public sector unit shipyards and other Indian private shipyards in April 2014, with GRSE emerging as the successful bidder for design, construction and supply of the eight craft, the statement said. Besides the anti-submarine vessels, the GRSE is currently manufacturing three stealth frigates, anti-submarine warfare corvettes and four survey vessels (large) for the Indian Navy, the statement said. The 100 warships built by GRSE so far range from advanced frigates to anti-submarine warfare corvettes to fleet tankers and fast attack craft. The current project will further consolidate GRSE’s position as a unique shipyard with all round capability to design and build warships with state-of-the-art technology, the defence ministry statement said.
