GPH wants peace process with NDF implemented within Duterte’s termThe Government of the Philippines (GPH) is committed to signing a final peace agreement with communist guerrillas within one year, giving the administration of President Duterte five more years to start implementing key reforms mutually agreed upon by both parties. This was disclosed by GPH peace panel member Hernani Braganza who underscored that the Duterte administration has set a self-imposed deadline to wrap up the peace talks in a year’s time to allow the implementation stage of the peace process to take root before the President’s term ends in 2022. “The Duterte government and the National Democratic Front (NDF) share a common mission: Address the root causes of the armed conflict. The agreement was among those reached in the resumption of the formal peace talks between the GPH and NDF in Oslo, Norway, last August 22 to 26. The JASIG protects certain NDF leaders and consultants from arrest and prosecution in recognition of their participation in the peace process.
