GM, PSV owners in deal to decongest CBD

Vehicle manufacturer General Motors East Africa has launched a PSV consortium to strengthen its partnership with the Public Service Vehicle industry and complement efforts to decongest the Central Business District. Government policy to decongest CBD started in 2005 to streamline the sector. Traffic jams in Nairobi are estimated to cost the county Sh50 million daily, mainly blamed on poor infrastructure and governance. Through an initiative dubbed PSV vision 2030, GM is leading a public-private Partnership campaign to grow the industry from 14-seater vehicles to higher capacity buses, organise the industry from individual ownership to Saccos and limited companies, and educate PSV owners on the benefits of using high-capacity buses.
