According to a press release dated January 7, 2026, the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Cyber Fraud Taskforce Unit of the Weija Sector Command on January 5, 2026. “Suspects were apprehended during an intelligent-led operation conducted by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Cyber Fraud Taskforce Unit of the Weija Sector Command, on January 5, 2026,” the statement said. The service further cautioned landlords and property owners to exercise due diligence when renting their properties to foreign nationals, noting that harbouring illegal immigrants constitutes an offence under Section 52(1)(b) of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).
