Scots communities have been dealt a devastating blow after both Barclays and Lloyds Banking Group confirmed they were scrapping dozens of branches across the country. Among the Lloyds closures are 17 branches of Bank of Scotland from small towns and villages across the country. More than 60 branches will close across the UK in the latest cull by the banking giants. Barclays will close its St Andrews Market Street branch on September 8. The number of bank branches in the UK halved between 1986 and 2014 with Scotland particularly badly hit.
