The discovery of a male Queensland fruit fly has put the Auckland suburb of Devonport and surrounding areas into a fruit and vegetable lockdown. Biosecurity New Zealand is investigating after the single fly was collected from a fruit fly trap and identified on February 14. "If it established here, the Queensland fruit fly could have serious consequences for New Zealand's horticultural industry. A brochure with information about the fruit fly and controls will go to homes in the area on Friday.
