A freeway police officer was killed and another injured after a trailer truck hit a patrol car on a section of National Freeway No. The three passengers and the driver of the van were also wounded in the incident. Forty-three-year-old Officer Chen Chi-rui, who was behind the wheel of the parked patrol car, suffered from severe injuries and later succumbed to his wounds. Twenty-six-year-old officer Yang Yu-shen also sustained multiple injuries and was found covered in blood. Though he had driven over 600 kilometers since midnight, he insisted the accident was not the result of driving while fatigued.
