Dozens of freelancers who did work for a marketing company during last year’s Pride Week remain unpaid seven months after Pride Toronto said it would step in to foot the bill. As previously reported by the Star, at least 35 freelance photographers and videographers were hired by Moov Marketing to document the festival, but were never paid. In November, Olivia Nuamah, executive director of Pride Toronto, pledged that the organization would step in to pay the freelancers by February — “It feels only right,” she said at the time. Last fall, Nuamah said she was unaware Moov had failed to pay the freelancers until Pride was contacted by one who was under the impression they had been working directly for Pride Toronto.
