Two years of free buses for Greater Christchurch residents are now a step closer. All but two Environment Canterbury (ECan) councillors voted on Thursday to investigate a two-year free-fare trial for public transport, to start from mid-next year. Councillor John Sunckell said if people used free buses to get to work, they would save more than the rates increase.
