It is a new daily record as the number topped 10,000 for the first time, and it is more than three times the new infection total announced by the UK on Saturday. When France announced its latest figures, they were the fourth highest new case total announced so far during the day, behind India (94,409), the US (22,730) and Brazil (13,971). Spain, which had a daily record with 12,184 new cases on Friday, had not yet announced its figures. The Government said that as of 9am on Saturday, there had been a further 3,497 lab-confirmed cases in the UK, slightly lower than the 3,539 cases recorded on Friday. This brings the UK total to 41,623, the fifth-highest death toll in the world and the highest in Europe.
