The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said that the RAF Typhoons, which are based at RAF Lossiemouth, were scrambled earlier today after the Russian aircraft entered 'the UK's controlled zone of international airspace'. The Russian planes were identified as TU-142 Bear F maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The Quick Reaction Alert Typhoons are currently based at former RAF Leuchars. In July Boris Johnson's Union Jack daubed warplane was scrambled along with a team of UK fighter jets to warn off a Russian air-force formation. The attempted Russian approach in July was by a team of Moscow's long-range “Blackjack” bombers, which are used as spy planes, to test UK responses to air incursion.
