He was found at the bottom of a slide unconscious with a bungee cord from a toy stilt wrapped around his neck. Aldrich’s death has been described by the lawyer for the childcare centre as “a tragedy of the highest order”. The bungee cord was around his neck and the stilt was snagged in the play equipment at the top of the slide. “Angels would like [Aldrich’s parents] to know all the teachers who attended are all scarred and deeply affected.”The centre was blessed by a kaumātua and a pastor following Aldrich’s death. Worksafe lawyer Katie Hogan said Worksafe had prosecuted an inflatable playground operator after a boy was strangled on a climbing rope weeks after Aldrich’s death.
