Emergency services were called to a serious crash on SH3, near Whangaeho Bridge, south of Whanganui at 5pm on TuesdayA crash on State Highway 3, south of Whanganui, has left four people seriously injured. Emergency services were called to a two-car collision on the highway, near Whangaehu Bridge, at 4.50pm on Tuesday. A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said four people were seriously injured and taken to Whanganui Hospital, three were taken by ambulance while the fourth was flown out by the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter at 6.15pm. Fire Service NZ spokeswoman Belinda Beets said firefighters had to extract one person from the wrecked vehicles, but most had managed to escape themselves. The road was closed, with traffic backed up in both directions, and motorists were asked to avoid the area until further notice, Beets said.
