The convicts are three brothers - Arju Mia, Rafiqul Islam and Tayab Ali, and Tayab's son Safar Uddin, residents of Shirikandi village of Chunarughat Upazila. The four were on the dock on Wednesday when Additional District and Sessions Judge Mafruja Parvin pronounced the verdict sentencing them to death, Additional Public Prosecutor Abdul Ahad Faruq told bdnews24.com. According to court dossier, the convicts called farmer Ful Mia to their home following a 'petty incident' on Oct 5, 2013. The court heard accounts of 20 witnesses during the trial and pronounced the verdict. The defence said they would appeal against the verdict to the High Court.
