more-inThe foundation stone for the construction of a memorial for former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was laid on the Marina beach front on Kamarajar Salai by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Monday. The artist’s impression of the memorial released by the State government showed a monument at the centre flanked by a curvilinear-shaped knowledge park and a museum. To be built at a cost of ₹50.8 crore, the proposed memorial would be bigger than those of former CMs C.N. Speaking to reporters after the event, Mr. Palaniswami said, “A sum of ₹50.8 crore has been earmarked for the project. Tenders have been floated and the memorial will be constructed within a year.”
