Fossil fuels - to stop drilling or slowly ease off the gas? SUPPLIED Ending New Zealand oil and gas exploration will either cost the country's economy, or clear the path for cleaner, renewable technologies - depending on who you talk to. They've also floated the idea that clean, green New Zealand would be doing the world a service by exporting fossil gas to developing countries. It's making outdated, dirty fuels like oil, gas and coal redundant in the face of clean, renewable technologies. Solar and wind power have dropped so dramatically in cost that they are already competing with fossil fuels and are poised to undercut new fossil energy in a couple of years.
