Former Winnipeg funeral director Chad Wheeler has been charged for allegedly defrauding families out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in prepaid funeral costs, police say. His company — Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium — went into court-ordered receivership in 2018. The board found Wheeler was compensated by over a dozen people for prearranged funeral services, but those funds were never placed in a trust account. 'It's horrific'Kerri Hirsch, a former Wheeler Funeral Home client, said she is still unsure if the ashes Wheeler handed her over two years ago were in fact those of her father. Her father died in March 2018, and the family paid Wheeler Funeral Home to cremate his body that month.
