NewsFormer President and Kurunegala District MP Mahinda Rajapaksa today criticised he National Unity Government’s second Budget and said it has heaped more burdens on the public already reeling under a high cost of living. He said that the Budget has paved the way for more tax increases as well as well as fines while the Government was on its way to selling off public enterprises. The former President made these remarks while participating in the debate on the second reading of the Budget in Parliament. “Recent election results in the UK and the US show that the people have rejected globalization and market economic policies. They rejected the leaders who worked above national interests on international interests,” he saidHe said that unfortunately this government is embracing those very same polices rejected by Western developed nations.
